Sample Testing Protocol

TESTING METHODS

NDTL is capable to detect all the substances or methods in its scope. This is only possible because the laboratory staff can rely on a variety of sophisticated chemical and analytical procedures.

Certain procedures are systematically applied to all samples received by the laboratory. Others are carried out in response to specific demands made by clients, Testing authorities, Federations and Games Organizing Committees. Samples that yield abnormal results may also be subjected to additional analyses. Once any prohibited substances are found to be present in a sample in screening procedure, the sample is subjected to a confirmation method specific for that substance.

NDTL has two different screening for Human dope testing. The complete testing protocol in NDTL is as per WADA ISL 2021. NDTL utilizes specific methods for different categories of drugs depending upon the minimum required performance limit required, chemical & physical properties of the drug.

SAMPLE TESTING PROTOCOL:

Human Dope Testing:

NDTL tests the sample received from human doping control in accordance to WADA ISL 2021 and applicable WADA technical document.

– Urine Testing
– Blood Testing

Urine Sample Testing Protocol:

NDTL has established testing protocol for In competition & out-of-competition samples.

SUBSTANCES AND METHODS PROHIBITED AT ALL TIMES (IN- AND OUT-OF-COMPETITION)

  • S0 – NON-APPROVED SUBSTANCES
  • S1 – ANABOLIC AGENTS
  • S2 – PEPTIDE HORMONES, GROWTH FACTORS, RELATED SUBSTANCES AND MIMETICS
  • S3 – BETA-2 AGONISTS
  • S4 – HORMONE AND METABOLIC MODULATORS
  • S5 – DIURETICS AND MASKING AGENTS
  • M1 – MANIPULATION OF BLOOD AND BLOOD COMPONENTS
  • M2 – CHEMICAL AND PHYSICAL MANIPULATION
  • M3 – GENE AND CELL DOPING

SUBSTANCES AND METHODS PROHIBITED IN-COMPETITION

In addition to the categories S0 to S5 and M1 to M3 defined above, the following categories are prohibited in competition:

  • S6 – STIMULANTS
  • S7 – NARCOTICS
  • S8 – CANNABINOIDS
  • S9 – GLUCOCORTICOSTEROIDS
  • P1 – BETA-BLOCKERS

Out of competition testing: Out of competition testing is being done for following events:

  • Training Period
  • Off Season

In Competition testing: Samples are included in competition testing under following categories:

  • Selection trial
  • State level championship
  • National Competition
  • International Competition

Blood Sample Testing:

Blood sample testing has been started in NDTL from April 2010 after getting NABL accreditation in the field of Biological Testing for hGH & Blood Parameter. The accreditation for the testing of blood transfusion, CERA and Hemoglobin based oxygen carriers was achieved in July 2010 and accordingly implemented in routine testing. The following table gives details of the blood testing being done at present in NDTL, India.

S.No. Screening Equipment Sample
 1. Erythropoietin Stimulating Agents (ESAs) & its Analogues Electrophoresis  Serum / Plasma
2. Human Growth Hormone Luminometer Serum
 3. Blood parameters Sysmex XN1000 Whole Blood
4. Hemoglobin Based Oxygen Carriers ELISA Reader, LC-MS/MS Serum
